What is PHP?

colorado addiction programsPHP can sound intense because it stands for the partial hospitalization program, but don’t let the name scare you. There’s no hospital involved! It’s just an industry term, and PHP is our highest level of care. It’s a middle ground between residential and an outpatient program, and it provides housing support without 24-hour physician care. It’s the first step in our continuum of care and great for those needing a little extra support. PHP is designed to stabilize and establish a firm foundation of recovery, so you can transition to our lower levels of care and acclimate back into your community. The program provides intensive therapy in group and individual settings. We also offer recovery residences (think sober living) to provide a safe, supportive, and accountable environment to do the work necessary to get and stay clean and sober.

PHP typically provides 30-days of treatment with recovery residences for adults suffering from mental health, complex trauma, and substance use disorders. Our programs are individualized, and the PHP stay may be a little shorter or a few days longer. You’ll begin with highly structured 25-30 hours of group therapy per week, and weekly individual sessions focused on mental health and trauma-based therapies. You’ll also have access to psychiatry services, medication management, and various treatment techniques, like brainspotting and EMDR, offered by our extensively trained clinicians.

What are Recovery Residences?

The recovery residences are similar to sober living houses. While living in our homes, you’ll attend community 12-step meetings five days per week to provide access to a community of people in similar situations. If you’d like to visit a local gym, a membership is provided, and we’ll provide transportation several times per week. You’ll also receive a weekly grocery allowance, so you make the food you actually like and want to eat rather than the standard cafeteria meals served at residential facilities. If you don’t feel like cooking, feel free to order a pizza or takeout from a local restaurant!

Benefits of our PHP Day Program

  • It combines the best aspects of outpatient and inpatient treatment in a less restrictive environment.
  • You can rely on structure and accountability but don’t feel trapped in an inpatient, residential treatment center.
  • If you’ve started treatment elsewhere, PHP can also act as a bridge between residential and outpatient treatment.
  • It stabilizes clients, so they can step down to our Day IOP program and return to work or school.
